Many people have sighed for the ‘good old days’ and regretted the ‘passing of the horse,’ but today, when only those who like horses own them, it is a far better time for horses. ~C.W. Anderson

Definitely. I’m not sure if modern owners are all wonderful. There’s good and bad. I suppose if your income depends on horse power it’s in your best interest to take care of horses, but I’d much prefer seeing someone mistreat a car than a horse.
I may overestimate, but traffic can be bad and my ancestor with a horse had no traffic. They had more control over where the roads went, so my 5 miles could be their 3. At a 8 mph trot, the horse can win,
The longer distance can only be won against the bad traffic because the distance means you can’t break out of a trot. I may be wrong, just my guess.

Yes, run a car into the ground…But an animal?

But even the compassion of the wicked is cruel.”

I still can’t help but think my ancestors traveled 5 miles quicker than I do. Maybe even 10.

How did they do that?
