What a truism. And all of us non-elites recognize it.
Struggling with the venom that seems to grow daily in the social media. There simply isn’t any real attempt to hear one another’s fears. And fear is the problem on both sides. And fear is too uncomfortable for most of us to live with for any length of time, so it turns to anger and hate. And those end up in violence.
Fear also comes from ignorance. I think a lot of people don’t know history and are fed half-truths about the present. Everyone is incredibly thin-skinned as well.
I grew up in a family of very passionate political and religious junkies. Everything was debated. There was yelling sometimes but it was served with cake and coffee. We never considered a person evil if they didn’t share our political opinion.
Very strange times we live in, Eileen. It’s hard not to get sucked in sometimes, though I do my best to be cordial when dipping my toes into online debates!
