Dogs are are often better companions than human friends. They like us better when we stink, they are pleased for whatever tidbit drops on the floor, they couldn’t give a crap about the house being a mess, they don’t need their laundry done, they love to chase the old, sodden toy, and they listen attentively every day to the same complaints and the same stories. They leap to your side for a pat on their heads and are always eager for as simple a date as a walk around the block. Then they are happy to fall asleep at your feet as though you are the most important thing in the world. Find me any other friend who is so true. (Of course, they do leave their own crap for you to clean up, but such small investment on your part for such reward.)

All very true although my favorite dog Huck Finn actually used to stomp his feet when i didn’t get his food fast enough. He also refused to be around me when I was upset. His bad behavior was quite endearing.
My husband used to shake his head at the stuff that dog got away with.

Some very fun images. I agree, Chekov looks amazingly relaxed with his dog. I appreciated seeing Steinbeck with Charley because his book “Travels with Charley” is among my favorites.
